Fiery Seat advertising shot updated

When they made small upgrades to their Leon Cupra R, Seat found that their expensively produced fire shot was out of date, however John was able to re-shoot the new car in his studio to patch into the original background – problem solved.

The final works racing E Type makes a dramatic return

Supplied in 1964 to German Jaguar importer, Peter Lindner, the unique ‘Low Drag’ streamlined E Type Jaguar was involved in a tragic accident during a long distance race at Montlhery, France. Lindner lost his life and the Jaguar was reduced to a pile of crumpled aluminium. After over 4300 hours of skilled work, the original body/chassis unit has been painstakingly straightened and rebuilt by Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth. John Colley Photography is proud to have been asked to photograph the car before paintwork and reassembly.

Grand Prix winning Ferrari in the Derby studio.

The ex Jackie Ickx Ferrari 312 B2 Formula One car was recently shot in studio for an Octane magazine feature. Acknowledged as one of the most glamourous  racing cars of the post war years, this highly original 1972 machine took the Belgian ace to victory in that year’s German GP on the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. The last time John saw the car was at the ’72 Monaco GP when it was raced and crashed by Ickx’s team mate, Clay Regazzoni.

Grey is the new white!

Following recent trends in some of the world’s leading drive-in coved studio’s, John Colley Photography’s Derby studio has been repainted from white to light grey. Grey, as well as allowing lighting to shade the background up or down to suit different colour cars, also promotes greater contrast in the lighting on the car itself. One of the first “grey’ shoots was John Carver’s classic Morgan +8 for a forthcoming Haynes book on the model.

Not only cars.

John’s photographs form the main illustrations in a just launched Haynes book on the classic Gibson Les Paul guitar. Mostly shot in the corner of a Birmingham guitar workshop, a portable setup has created a studio look. Written by BBC filmmaker, Paul Balmer, this is the second in a series of Classic Rock Guitar Manuals which John has taken pictures for. Photography is about to begin on the next book in the series.
